The National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Nuhu Ribadu held a closed-door meeting with Governors from the five South-East states in Abuja on Monday, July 31.

It is believed the meeting was to discuss the escalating security issues in Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi states.

Just last week the Senate condemned the recurring Monday sit-at-home orders in the South-East and called on the Federal Government to partner with the Finnish Government to extradite pro-Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa for trial in Nigeria.

The illegal sit-at-home orders, reportedly enforced by a fraction of the banned IPOB in the five Southeast states, were first issued in 2021.

The orders were a tactic to demand the release of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently held by the Department of State Services (DSS) and facing trial for charges related to terrorism.

The meeting also comes after the Senate dismissed a proposal for the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, saying the issue of his release is still in court.
